Vastenburg castle is one of Dutch Colonial inheritances in XVII century, which was build by General Governor Baron van Imhoff. In the beginning the name of this castle was Grootmoedigheid. This building was surrounded 6 meter concrete brick wall by bearing wall construction and moat with lifting bridge as connector. Whereas buildings inside castle were partitioned for houses of soldiers and their family. In some point around it, there was house for captains lived in the contexts of struggle for national independence, inside this castle was recorded a lot of our heroes had been jailed, tortured, and murdered in Dutch Colonial Era. This castle was used to be used as supervising center of Dutch government to oversee Kasunan Palace’s movement. The same thing continued in Japan era when this castle was controlled Dai Nipon Troops. After Indonesian independent, this castle has been ever used as military hostel. This place became military complex or dormitory for Brigade Infantri 6, Trisakti Baladaya and Kostrad. Vastenburg castle is located in the end of Jend. Soedirman street, Solo and near to city center. But, the castle which was used to luxurious in the center of Bengawan, today was only an old building which was not precious and sprouted by heavy grass. Some of goat breeders broke through iron fence to look after their goat in the corner of castle’s wall which was thoroughly cracked and looked gloom in a piece of land in front of castle’s yard, stood luxuriously a gloomy building. In a piece of land in front of castle’s yard, stood luxuriously a new building which is built for an office of private Bank. While in one of it’s corner, is build as parking area for touring bus which take tourist to Solo Palace or Klewer Market. That tourist might never know, if beside of iron fence where they parked, there is a national historical inheritance site. A building as cultural area as big as 31.533 m2, which should be protected by law no. 5 in 1992 about Protection of Historical Palace.
